Obituary of Ronald Ross Oswald

Ron passed away in his Jacksonville, Florida home
on January 2 nd , 2025. He was born on December 10 th ,
1951 in Fairfax, Missouri and raised mostly in Rock
Port, Missouri. Ron graduated from Rock Port High
School in 1970.
Ron developed an impressive resume at a young
age, earning accolades as an athlete and actor. Well
respected and loved by his schoolmates, Ron was
crowned Homecoming King in 1969 He was named
All-Conference and All-District Running Back of the
football team that same year! Additionally, Ron
served on the Student Council, Advisory Council, and
played a part in the Junior and Senior play where he
was awarded a drama award his Junior year.
In 1973, Ron moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be
closer to his brother, Roger, and never moved back.
He began a new life in Florida, eventually married
and had his daughter in December of 1981. Ron
loved to fish and watch Gator football. He was an
avid Gator fan and loved to go to games to cheer
them on. Go Gators!
Ron was a loyal employee. He worked for Highway
Oil, Inc from 1975 to 1986, Huttig Sash & Door from
1989-2001, and finally, he worked for Ryder
(previously a few other companies but most recently
acquired by Ryder) for 22 years as a driver!
Ron is preceded in death by his mother Rowena
Harrington Smith (2017), stepfather Richard Smith
(2021), and his brothers Kerry Oswald (2019) and
Roger Oswald (2023).
Ron is survived by his daughter, Victoria Norman
(Oswald) and her husband, James Norman, as well
as his two beautiful granddaughters, Payton (14) and
Piper (11) Norman, of Houston, Texas. Other
survivors include his brother, Kim Smith, and niece,
Griffin Smith of Bethany, Missouri, sister-in-law, Alice
Oswald and nephews Tyler and Travis Oswald of
Jacksonville, Florida as well as many great-nieces,
nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 10th ,
2025 at Riverside Avenue Christian Church from
5:30-7:30pm.
