Obituary of Margaret Marie Sutherland

Jacksonville, Florida-Margaret Marie "Maggie" Sutherland, 84, Jacksonville, died surrounded by family, Friday February 16, 2024 at her son's home. Maggie married her high school sweetheart at the age of 19 to David Edward Sutherland, Washing, D.C. They were married on November 26, 1958 in Ottawa, Kansas. Maggie bore three children. She gave birth to both her daughter Lauri Jennings, Bronson, Florida, son, David Bryan, Paisley, Florida, while her husband was going to the University of Kansas. A decade later, she gave birth to her second son, Michael Edward Sutherland, Jacksonville, Florida. David Edward preceded her in death March 6, 2018 and son David, November 6, 2021. She was a retired homemaker who loved being around friends, family, taking care of her rescue dog Peanut and enjoyed shopping. She was a funny and witty woman that loved to make people laugh, relax and have fun reminiscing about life. After moving in with her son Michael, she attended Journey Church and volunteered to help serve the homeless meals at the Salvation Army in downtown Jacksonville. Several years ago, Maggie and her husband Dave resided in Flippin, Arkansas for where they enjoyed the retirement life for 21 years. Dave and Maggie were involved with the community and they met cherished friends. Both of them enjoyed traveling by RV where they met more cherished friends through the years, even belonging to a RV group called the Hitchhikers. Maggie also loved crafts, sewing and gardening. Before the retirement years and living in Orlando, Florida, she enjoyed the perks of working at Ticket Master and seeing concerts with her husband Dave. She also worked as a front desk receptionist for hotels owned my Mr. Rosen, working for Kelly Temp Agency where she also enjoyed receptionist and secretary duty for Walt Disney World. Why did she work? SHOPPING! While residing in Orlando, Dave and Maggie met incredible friends as they were part of a motorcycle club called the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. They traveled to sanctioned motorcycle meets and even won awards for their customized Honda Goldwing. Maggie was born in her grandma's farm house in Maple Hill (Ottawa), Kansas on August 6, 1939 to Edward and Lena Schleif Crawford. Survivors include brothers Edward Crawford, Kingfisher, Oklahoma and Gary Crawford, Topeka, Kansas; 3 grandsons, and 4 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Highlands United Presbyterian Church, 10900 McCormick Rd., 10900 McCormick Rd, Florida 32225.
