Obituary of Guilda Constance Baxter Kersey

Please share a memory of Guilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Guilda Constance Baxter Kersey “Connie” passed on January 9, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Kidney Failure. She was born in Camp Le Jeune, North Carolina to Edward and Guilda Baxter. Her father was in the military, which meant the family moved around quite a bit over the years. Her family finally settled in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where she would graduate from Live Oak High School. She married out of high school and had three children. She was immensely proud that all three of her children went into the healthcare field: Barbara Smith, R.N., Richard Kersey Jr. D.C., and Deborah Kersey D.C.. She worked in Chiropractic as a Chiropractic Assistant with Drs. Dan and April Dodd for several years before going to work for Bloomers Lingerie at Park and King. At Bloomers, she learned to do bra fittings and help mastectomy patients. She used these skills when she moved to Marietta, Georgia in 1991 and worked at Parisian Department Store, winning many awards for being a top seller. Our mother was a faithful member of the Church of Christ from 1972 until her passing. She attended St. Augustine Church of Christ, Post Street Church of Christ, Wesconnett Church of Christ, Lakeside Church of Christ, Piedmont Church of Christ and Dean Road Church of Christ. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Lee) Smith and Deborah (David Dangar) Kersey-Dangar, her grandchildren: Jarrod Kersey, Bert and Luke Smith, Reece, Ross and Rhett Kersey and many nieces and nephews from the Kersey Family. She is preceded in death by her parents MSGT. Edward and Guilda Baxter, her brother Major Murray Baxter, and her son Richard Kersey Jr. D.C. Many thanks go to those who took care of her in her later years: The staff at Riverwood Nursing Home, the Staff at First Coast Dialysis, and the members at Dean Road Church of Christ who sent cards, letters and visited her on a weekly basis. The Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 20th at Lakeside Church of Christ. Visitation will be at 12:30 pm and the service will begin at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, our mother requested donations be made to the Mount Dora Children’s Home in Mount Dora, Florida.
