Mr. Theodore was always a presence in the Jackson family’s life because of Dad and their friendship. I have many fond memories of not only having him as a Band Director but social situations as well. I have no doubt Dad and he are having a very heathy discussion about anything music related as it was their lifelong passion. It was a pleasure knowing Mr. Theodore and to be one of his students.

We loved being around you. Pool parties at the house, your special treats and gifts from your travels, your passion for teaching, and your love for music. You always made dinner nights at your house special. Listening to Phantom of the Opera with you on the “big speakers.” You hold many of my favorite memories. You’re so missed already. We love you, Uncle Steve!

I was saddened to learn from a mutual friend of Steve’s passing earlier this month. I was privileged to know him. I considered him to be one of my closest friends in high school and on into college. We shared so many good times together. I knew him as a talented, fun-loving and busy musician playing trumpet and bass all around the Washington DC area. I also considered him to be a “whiz” at electronics as he could seemingly rewire and fix any sort of electric contraption that needed the repair. He even helped me put up a string of Christmas lights in my locker using the high school’s electricity!
Sadly, we lost touch in the middle of college as, unlike me, he put his time there to good use, marrying a beautiful girl, getting a degree and finding a job. I wish I had that focus. All of that was 50(!) years ago yet his friendship colored my life. To this day I remember him as one of the kindest and most open-hearted people I have ever known. I believe he was that way with everyone—loving people unconditionally and universally. God’s blessings and comfort to his wife Julie and his sister Gwen. I miss him too out here in Oregon.

Julie,
Bob and I enjoyed the brief time that Steve was our neighbor. I wish we had gotten to know him better. It was so interesting to read about his life and his amazing musical talent. He certainly was accomplished.
We are thinking of you and all of your family.
