ELEANOR CLAIRE ALLEN
11-16-1938 TO 9-14-2023
Eleanor Allen was born in Atlanta, Ga. Her parents were Gladys & Homer Allen. The
family relocated to Jacksonville, Fl. She continued living in the Murray Hill Area of the city for her
entire life.
Eleanor was a brilliant artist. She graduated from William & Mary College where she
earned a B.A. in art history and painting. She further pursued her studies at George Washington
University where she received her B.F.A in painting.
She taught painting, drawing and art history at FSCJ for 35 years, influencing generations
of students in the Jacksonville community. She loved seeing young students grow in their art
and life accomplishments. Her work was influenced by her world travels with friends and other
artists.
Eleanor passed away peacefully at the Windsor Ortega Assisted Living Community in
Jacksonville, Fl. She died of natural causes and just seemed to quietly “Go to Sleep.” Her burial
will be at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on November 7, 2023, from 3:00-5:00pm at the Wilson
Center for the Arts
